A Stratasys Case Study
Rennschmiede-Pforzheim, a student-led racing team from Pforzheim University, needed a non-conductive case to house the battery for its Formula Student electric race car. The team's challenge was that traditional manufacturing methods like machining or molding a one-off part from a polymer like PEEK were too costly and impractical. Vendor Stratasys provided a solution using 3D printing with its ULTEM™ 9085 resin material.
By 3D printing the battery case with Stratasys, the team achieved significant results. The part was produced in just 20 hours and met the required flame retardant specifications. The solution from Stratasys provided a 75% reduction in material waste compared to milling, substantial cost savings, and a lighter weight part that was more appropriate for a competitive race vehicle.
