Racing to Victory Renntech Designs Winning Racer For Mercedes-benz In Just 35 Days

RENNtech, a Florida performance shop specializing in Mercedes‑Benz tuning, was selected to compete in the Mercedes‑Benz GLK Tuner Challenge with just 35 days to design and build an off‑road racer prototype. Faced with tight time and budget constraints and the need to produce multiple body panels normally made from fiberglass or carbon fiber, RENNtech turned to Stratasys and its Dimension 3D Printer to speed prototyping and avoid costly, time‑consuming molds.

Stratasys’ Dimension 3D Printer enabled RENNtech to rapidly iterate and produce eight body panels, an airbox, an engine cover and a steering wheel cover (largest part 36" x 20" x 6"), allowing the team to finish the project in 35 days and win the GLK Tuner Challenge at SEMA. The Stratasys FDM solution delivered measurable benefits: about 41% cost savings versus using an outside service bureau and over $15,000 saved compared with traditional tooling, and RENNtech now relies on the Dimension printer for everyday prototyping.
