Purposeful Innovation Through 3D Printing Drives Protec Dental Laboratories' Success

Protec Dental Laboratories, one of Canada’s largest full-service dental labs in Vancouver, faced the need to modernize slow, labor‑intensive stone-model workflows, improve model accuracy from intra‑oral scans, and scale production without adding staff. To address this, Protec adopted Stratasys 3D printing—specifically PolyJet™ 3D printers—to digitize model production and support a growing digital dentistry workflow.

By implementing Stratasys PolyJet technology, Protec began printing dozens of accurate models simultaneously from digital scans, replacing manual stone models with consistent, high‑precision printed parts. The Stratasys solution helped Protec double its digital workflow from roughly 10% to 20% of business in 1–2 years, enabled adding a new PolyJet printer each year for four years, broadened geographic reach via electronic files, attracted new customers and scaled clear-aligner production while increasing throughput with fewer people.
