A Stratasys Case Study
Pack Line Ltd., a Holon, Israel–based maker of customized packaging machines for the food, dairy and cosmetic industries, struggled with high costs, long lead times and minimum-order requirements for low-volume, complex replacement parts that caused costly production downtime. To overcome these barriers the company worked with Stratasys (via local partner SU-PAD) to evaluate FDM additive manufacturing using the Fortus 450mc 3D printer.
By implementing Stratasys FDM with Fortus 450mc and ULTEM 1010 thermoplastic, Pack Line now 3D-prints complex parts on demand, lowering unit cost to about $80 (vs. ≥$100 with a four-unit minimum), achieving up to 55% cost savings and cutting lead time from about one week to as little as two hours. Stratasys-enabled parts have delivered greater design freedom (e.g., food-safe hoppers), proven durability (expected >5–6 million cycles), reduced customer downtime and are already deployed in the field (six 3D‑printed pushers in use).
