Otis College of Art & Design saves 4 weeks creating 3D-printed garments with Stratasys

Otis College of Art & Design, a leader in art and design education, faced the challenge of creating complex, futuristic garments for a runway show in collaboration with Activision Blizzard. Students needed to produce intricate designs with optical illusions and elevated finishes that were nearly impossible to achieve with traditional fabric blocking and laser cutting methods within their tight timeline. They partnered with vendor Stratasys and utilized its J850 TechStyle 3D printer powered by 3DFashion direct-to-textile technology.

The Stratasys solution allowed students to 3D print their digital designs directly onto fabric with over 600,000 colors and multiple textures. This enabled the creation of one-of-a-kind garments with fantastic optical effects and a fusion of traditional and futuristic aesthetics. The technology saved an estimated four weeks in the production process and was integral to the creation of the award-winning garment. As a result, Otis College plans to integrate Stratasys 3DFashion technology into its curriculum moving forward.
