Objet 3D Printer Helps Fabricate Tiny Tissue Scaffolds

Nanyang Technological University’s School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering needed to produce extracellular tissue scaffolds with reproducible, high-resolution features while staying within tight budget limits. After evaluating rapid prototyping technologies, the researchers selected Stratasys and its Objet Eden350V 3D Printer to meet their stringent precision and scale requirements.

Using the Stratasys Objet Eden350V, the team printed intricate, dissolvable molds as negatives of the scaffold architecture and cast scaffold material to create interconnected 3D channel networks. Stratasys’ high-resolution, ultra-thin-layer printing delivered accurate, cost-effective production of micron-scale scaffold features (with parts reported down to 1 mm), faster turnaround for defect detection, and measurable cost savings and accelerated development and production cycles.
