A Stratasys Case Study
Nokia, a telecommunications company, faced challenges in sustainable PCB refurbishment due to the risk of damaging temperature-sensitive components with traditional repair methods. To develop a secure and reproducible ESD-safe processing tool, they partnered with vendor Stratasys and utilized materials like Henkel's Loctite 3D IND3380 ESD.
The solution implemented by Stratasys was a 3D printed tool body that combined metal with the ESD-safe material, customized to Nokia's board layouts. This provided reliable electrostatic discharge protection and high heat deflection, allowing for precise heat control that reduced thermal stress and prevented damage to surrounding components. For Nokia, this resulted in faster, more cost-effective, and regulation-compliant repairs with less waste, supporting both operational efficiency and sustainability goals.
