Motion Capture Firm Uses 3D Printing to Expand its Helmet-Mounted Camera Product

MOCAP Design, a West Hollywood motion-capture firm founded by brothers Philip and Miles Guidon, struggled to produce highly customized helmet-mounted camera (HMC) supports using a local machine shop—their prototyping cycle took three to four weeks and was too slow and costly for low-volume, bespoke parts. To address this, MOCAP Design turned to Stratasys and its 3D printing technology, initially using a uPrint SE Plus to speed prototyping and production.

Using Stratasys printers (uPrint SE Plus, later adding a Dimension Elite and a Fortus 250mc), MOCAP Design moved production parts straight from printer to helmet, cutting lead times from weeks to overnight, reducing costs, and handling design changes quickly. The Stratasys solution increased capacity (running two builds overnight and then adding a third, larger system), improved reliability, and helped grow the business—winning clients such as Ubisoft Entertainment and launching Hollywood 3D Printing.
