Microsoft accelerates Xbox controller prototyping with Stratasys J850 Prime

Microsoft's Advanced Prototyping Center faced a challenge in prototyping the multi-material, jewel-like ABXY buttons for its Xbox controllers. Traditional prototyping methods were slow, requiring days to create individual molds and assemble parts for each unique button. Early 3D printing helped but did not eliminate the lengthy mold-making process. The vendor, Stratasys, provided a solution using its PolyJet technology and J850 Prime 3D printer.

The Stratasys J850 Prime allowed Microsoft to change both the shape and color of prototype components in a single print, applying advanced color and opacity techniques directly. This solution drastically reduced prototyping time, giving designers the capacity to explore more creative options and iterate design details effortlessly, ensuring the production of exciting new products for the Xbox community.
