Lamborghini - Customer Case Study

Lamborghini faced the challenge of validating and refining the carbon-fiber reinforced composite monocoque and related components for the Aventador, requiring many physical prototypes to verify assembly fit, load paths and avoid costly tooling errors. To speed development and produce durable, functional prototypes, Lamborghini partnered with Stratasys and its FDM technology, using Fortus systems (and Dimension printers) to explore rapid prototyping and tooling alternatives.

Stratasys’ Fortus FDM printers produced complete 1/6-scale body and chassis prototypes, with the inner tub printed in 6.3 days and total build/finish time around 20 days at roughly $3,000—versus an estimated $40,000 and 120 days using traditional CFRC prototyping. The rapid, high-strength FDM parts enabled many iterative design cycles that improved fit and load paths, significantly reducing cost and lead time while supporting additional functional prototypes (including the Aventador transmission) using Stratasys systems.
