Jaguar Land Rover Finds Competitive Advantage with Multi-Material 3D Printer

Jaguar Land Rover faced the need to broaden in-house prototyping capabilities and accelerate product development by producing multi-material, elastomer-like parts directly from CAD for styling, fit and function testing. To meet this challenge, Jaguar Land Rover turned to Stratasys and installed the Objet500 Connex 3D Printer (PolyJet technology) to create working mechanisms and over-molded assemblies quickly and accurately.

Stratasys’ Objet500 Connex enabled JLR to print complete working parts in a single process—such as a facia air vent with rigid housing and rubber-like seals—and to iterate designs much faster. The printer has logged about 5,000 operating hours, produced more than 2,500 parts using 600 kg of resin, now accounts for over one third of JLR’s resin-based prototyping, requires minimal maintenance, and has delivered measurable reductions in development time and improved styling and fit/function validation.
