iRobot cuts support removal labor to just a few minutes with Stratasys

iRobot, a leader in home robotics, faced a challenge in its rapid prototyping process. The manual removal of support material from 3D printed parts was a time-consuming and labor-intensive task for its technicians. To improve efficiency, iRobot worked with vendor Stratasys and implemented the use of its SUP706 soluble support material.

The solution from Stratasys involved dissolving the support material in an alkaline bath, which drastically reduced the manual labor required. This change resulted in a massive reduction in hands-on labor from one dedicated staff member per day to just a few minutes. This efficiency gain allowed iRobot to build more prototypes faster, accelerating its product development cycle and helping it bring innovative products to market more quickly.
