A Stratasys Case Study
The Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences faced a challenge creating highly precise, small particle models of varying shapes (conical, cylindrical, cubical and irregular) for particle kinetics experiments. Previously the lab outsourced parts (beads, pellets and custom irregular shapes), which was time‑consuming, costly and uncertain in precision, so the team invested in PolyJet™ 3D printing technology from Stratasys to produce accurate models in‑house.
Using Stratasys PolyJet, the IOP prints microscopic, multi‑material particle models with accuracy to within 0.1 mm, eliminating outsourcing, assembly and extra post‑processing. For example, a perforated granular chain (6 mm particles, under 5 cm length) that would have taken up to 10 days to outsource was 3D printed in two days; the lab now shortens experiment cycles, reduces cost and manpower, and enables rapid, precise design iterations with Stratasys technology.
