Il Pennaio revives Duchessa 1935 with Stratasys, producing up to 50 pens per tray

The customer, Il Pennaio, a high-end luxury pen manufacturer, sought to revive the historic Duchessa 1935 brand and make it competitive in the modern luxury market. Their challenge was to create a new collection of pens with vibrant, intricate designs that were impossible to achieve with traditional manufacturing methods or other 3D printers. They partnered with vendor Stratasys and used its multi-color, multi-material J8 Series PolyJet 3D printing technology.

Stratasys' solution enabled Il Pennaio to produce a landmark collection of 250 pens with over 640,000 unique color and texture combinations, including intricate patterns and Pantone Verified colors. The results included the successful launch of the first Duchessa collection in over sixty years, which led to Il Pennaio being selected as a partner for a major European retailer, La Couronne du Comte, delivering an influx of new customers. The technology also opened the door to profitable small-batch and custom production, fundamentally transforming the company's capabilities and revitalizing the brand.
