Hyundai MOBIS - Customer Case Study

Hyundai MOBIS, a Korean automotive parts supplier for Hyundai and Kia, needed high-precision prototypes for design verification, airflow evaluation and functional testing—particularly for large components like instrument panels. To meet strict dimensional accuracy and stability requirements, Hyundai MOBIS used a Stratasys Fortus FDM system to produce full-scale ABS prototypes.

Stratasys’ Fortus FDM solution delivered durable, water-soluble-supported ABS parts that met tight tolerances (a maximum deviation of 0.75 mm over a 1,382 mm panel) and enabled the team to assemble a 498 x 454 x 1,382 mm instrument panel for CMM inspection. The prototype revealed 27 design flaws that would have increased cost and schedule, reduced outsourcing (the Fortus runs ~8,000 hours/year at 91% capacity), and paid for itself in under 30 months—prompting Hyundai MOBIS to add a second Fortus system.
