How Stratasys 3D printing technology reinvented the Duchessa 1935 brand

Il Pennaio, an artisan penmaker, set out to revive the historic Duchessa 1935 luxury pen brand but needed contemporary design freedom and ultra‑high quality that traditional methods couldn’t deliver. To achieve this, Il Pennaio partnered with Florenradica and turned to Stratasys, using its multi‑color, multi‑material J8 Series PolyJet 3D printing technology for the project.

Stratasys’ J8 Series and proprietary resins enabled vibrant, intricate designs (over 640,000 color/texture combinations, including Pantone Verified) and economical small‑batch production—examples include The American Dream (76 pieces), Zhulong (88 pieces) and a 250‑piece Duchessa 1935 launch produced on-site in Florence. The result was rapid, customizable manufacturing (up to 50 complete pens per print tray), immediate sales traction including a new retail partnership with La Couronne du Comte, and a successful market relaunch for Il Pennaio.
