Hong Kong Polytechnic University enables personalized apparel design with Stratasys J850 TechStyle and 40 3D printers

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's 3D printing center (U3DP) faced a challenge in its fashion design research project: overcoming poor surface adhesion when bonding rigid polymers to soft fabrics. They also needed the final printed apparel products to be directly washable. To address this, they contacted Stratasys.

Stratasys implemented its J850 TechStyle 3D printer with 3DFashion technology. This solution allowed the university to directly print high-fidelity, colorful patterns with lifelike textures onto various fabrics like denim and cotton. The result was the removal of creative limitations, enabling truly personalized and three-dimensional apparel design. Stratasys notes the printer's ease of use allowed research staff to master it quickly.
