Hager Group Cuts Tooling Production Time and Costs

Hager Group’s Saverne production site, which specializes in home automation and energy management systems, needed a faster, more flexible way to produce complex tooling to increase responsiveness, cut costs and avoid production delays caused by long outsourced lead times. To meet these goals the company evaluated advanced additive manufacturing and selected Stratasys for an in‑house solution.

Stratasys supplied a Fortus 380mc FDM 3D printer (using production‑grade thermoplastics such as ABS‑M30), enabling Hager Group to print complex, lightweight tools with honeycomb structures. The result: significant cost savings versus machined aluminum, a 50% reduction in tool weight, ROI estimated within 18 months, customized low‑volume tools produced within 24 hours versus two weeks when outsourced, and up to three days of lead‑time saved—plus plans to commercialize small series parts (about 120 thumb‑sized caps).
