Gulf Wind Technology speeds wind tunnel model production 2.5 to 5x with Stratasys

Gulf Wind Technology, a company specializing in wind turbine rotor design, faced a challenge in rapidly prototyping and testing new airfoil designs due to the slow and cumbersome nature of traditional manufacturing methods like CNC machining. To accelerate their development cycle and incorporate complex pressure-sensing features directly into wind tunnel models, they partnered with vendor Stratasys and implemented the Stratasys Neo 800 SL stereolithography 3D printer using Somos PerFORM Reflect material.

The Stratasys solution enabled Gulf Wind Technology to 3D print wind tunnel models that were 2.5 to 5 times faster to produce than with traditional methods. This dramatically shortened their design iteration and validation timeline. The printed models were strong enough to withstand hurricane-force wind tests and incorporated integral pressure taps that simplified the testing process, providing essential performance data and differentiating their capabilities in the industry.
