Galilee Medical Center speeds 3D surgical planning to less than 24 hours with Stratasys

Galilee Medical Center, a major regional hospital and Level 1 trauma center in Israel, faced significant challenges in planning complex craniomaxillofacial surgeries. Traditional 2D imaging was insufficient, and outsourcing 3D printed anatomical models resulted in high costs and delays of up to two weeks, which was unacceptable for urgent trauma and oncology cases. To gain precision, speed, and control, their surgical team sought an in-house solution and partnered with vendor Stratasys.

The solution was the implementation of a point-of-care 3D printing lab using the Stratasys J5 Digital Anatomy printer and materials like MED610 and BoneMatrix. This allowed surgeons to rapidly produce multi-material, sterilizable anatomical models and surgical guides in-house, often in less than 24 hours. The results were substantial; after use in over 160 surgeries, Stratasys technology helped achieve significant reductions in operating time, improved surgical accuracy, and lower revision surgery rates, while also enhancing patient communication and surgical training.
