Fast, Accurate Models Drive Orthodontic Appliance Development

Specialty Appliances, a Georgia-based digital orthodontic laboratory, needed a faster, more accurate alternative to traditional impression-based stone models that drove long lead times and extra patient appointments. To modernize their workflow they adopted Stratasys technology, deploying Objet Eden260V and Objet Eden500V 3D printers with VeroDentPlus material to produce dental models directly from intraoral scans.

Using Stratasys printers, Specialty Appliances cut appliance development time (delivering custom appliances about a week sooner), grew 3D-print case share from 6% to 24% in 18 months and added a third printer to support demand; prints achieve roughly 40‑micron accuracy, are more durable (allowing multiple appliances from one print) and reduced a typical procedure from six weeks/three appointments to two weeks/two appointments—lowering costs, shortening treatment time and driving business growth.
