Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University places 4th in RobotX Challenge with Stratasys

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's student team, Team Minion, faced the challenge of designing a streamlined and watertight autonomous vessel for the international RobotX Challenge. They needed a robust housing to protect sensitive sensor systems from perils like flooding and heat build-up. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor Stratasys and utilized a Fortus 900mc 3D printer with FDM Nylon 12 material.

The solution from Stratasys enabled the team to 3D print complex, watertight housings that were both highly functional and hydrodynamic. This approach saved significant time and cost compared to traditional machining. As a result, the team placed 4th overall in the competition and won the award for 'Most Autonomous System,' while also gaining valuable real-world experience in additive manufacturing.
