Elkamet Embraces 3D Printing to Maximize Design and Production-Floor Efficiencies

Elkamet Kunststofftechnik, a German family-owned plastic parts manufacturer, faced pressure to deliver high-quality, tailored parts faster across automotive and lighting markets. To shorten lead times and enable more flexible prototyping, Elkamet turned to Stratasys and invested in Stratasys FDM technology (Fortus 450mc) and the full-color, multi-material Stratasys J750 3D Printer.

Stratasys supplied FDM printers and materials (ASA on the Fortus 450mc and VeroClear on the J750) that let Elkamet produce much lighter, customized gauges and one-off transparent lighting prototypes. Using Stratasys technology, gauge lead times dropped by up to 75%, handling improved due to reduced weight, contrast was enhanced by color changes, and prototype quality (including lens effects and tunable rigidity) accelerated design approvals—saving time and costs across production and R&D.
