Ducati cuts engine development by 20 months with Stratasys

Ducati, a motorcycle manufacturer, faced the challenge of reducing its design cycle and time-to-market for new engines. To address this, the company implemented FDM (fused deposition modeling) prototyping systems from the vendor Stratasys to build durable concept models and functional prototypes.

The solution from Stratasys enabled Ducati to bring prototyping in-house. This cut 20 months from the development process of a new race bike engine and reduced errors. The company also saved significantly, as the cost of the two FDM machines was much lower than its previous annual expense of approximately 1 million euros for outsourced service bureaus.
