Construcciones Mecánicas Mecoval boosts production capabilities with FDM additive manufacturing to accommodate changing customer demands

Construcciones Mecánicas Mecoval (Mecoval) is a Spanish machining service provider serving aerospace, automotive, logistics and packaging industries. Facing a shift toward more complex, customized parts and much tighter turnaround times, Mecoval evaluated additive manufacturing and invested in a Stratasys Fortus 450mc FDM 3D printer (via local partner Comher) to complement its CNC capabilities and boost production agility.

Using the Stratasys Fortus 450mc and Stratasys production-grade materials (ULTEM 1010, ULTEM 9085, polycarbonate and soluble ST-130), Mecoval now produces composite layup tools, sacrificial cores and molds in days instead of the previous two–three weeks, at a fraction of the cost. The Stratasys solution has replaced machined aluminum tools for many applications, expanded Mecoval’s aerospace and automotive offering, increased capacity to win new business, and materially transformed the company’s tooling and production workflows.
