A Stratasys Case Study
Clubfoot Solutions, a medical equipment manufacturer, sought to improve the non-surgical treatment of clubfoot birth defects for children worldwide. Their challenge was to rapidly prototype and iterate a new, more mobile design for their traditional Iowa Brace. They partnered with Stratasys and utilized the university's Protostudios lab, which employed Stratasys FDM and PolyJet 3D printing technology.
Using Stratasys F370 and J750 3D printers, the team quickly produced 18 functional prototypes for immediate testing and patient feedback. This accelerated process allowed for rapid design improvements, such as doubling the thickness of a component to prevent cracking. The solution enabled by Stratasys technology resulted in an effective, affordable brace, with nearly 100,000 units distributed to date, giving children greater independence and mobility.
