Casa Di Cura Villa Sant’apollonia Uses 3D Printing to Reduce Maxillofacial Surgery Times by 10-15%

Villa Sant'Apollonia, a medical clinic in Bergamo, Italy specializing in maxillofacial surgery, needed a more tangible way to plan complex procedures from CT scans to reduce patient risk and improve operating-room efficiency. To solve this, surgeons adopted Stratasys Fused Deposition Modeling technology, using the Dimension 3D Printer to create durable ABS anatomical models for rehearsal and planning.

Using Stratasys Dimension models, the surgical team simulated entire procedures, pre-shaped and sterilized plates and screws, and improved patient consultations, which translated into safer, more efficient operations. Stratasys’ solution cut time under anaesthetic by 10–15%, allowed sometimes for two surgeries in a morning, and reduced the risk of mistakes while optimizing cost and time.
