Case Study: Quality Electrodynamics, LLC achieves rapid design iteration and 15–75% cost savings with Stratasys Fortus 3D printing

A Stratasys Case Study

Preview of the Quality Electrodynamics, LLC Case Study

Big changes for the medical imaging industry in additive manufacturing

Quality Electrodynamics, LLC (QED), a designer and manufacturer of MRI radiofrequency (RF) coils, faced long lead times and costly tooling when developing custom coil housings, internal mounting fixtures and production trays. To speed iterations and reduce costs, QED adopted Stratasys additive manufacturing—initially buying a Fortus 3D Production System and later expanding to multiple Fortus printers.

Using Stratasys Fortus 3D printing, QED now produces housings, internal rail channels and 81 different in‑house production fixtures, running seven Fortus printers to iterate designs rapidly. The Stratasys solution cut lead times from weeks to days (parts in about three days versus three weeks), enabled one-off research coil production without expensive tooling, and delivered 15–75% cost savings on prototyping and fixtures.
