axial3D - Customer Case Study

axial3D, working with Stratasys, helps hospitals and medical teams turn 2D medical scans into patient-specific 3D printed anatomical models. In this case, the challenge was planning a complex ventricular septal defect (VSD) surgery with enough precision to understand the patient’s unique heart anatomy and identify the safest approach.

Stratasys and axial3D used a 3D printed heart model created from DICOM data via axial3D’s 510(k)-cleared segmentation workflow to support pre-operative planning and rehearsal. The model helped the lead physician confirm a new surgical strategy one hour faster, saved the team an additional 60 minutes during surgery, improved physician-to-physician communication, and reduced operating time, lowering risk of infection and complications.
