AP Racing Wins New Business Using 3D Printing

AP Racing, a U.K.-based maker of performance brake and clutch systems with a long history in Formula 1, needed a better way to communicate complex finite element analysis (FEA) results and produce accurate, multi-material prototypes and one-off tooling to stay competitive. To meet requirements for extremely fine detail (0.014 mm resolution), full-color models, and functional features, AP Racing adopted the Stratasys J750 3D printer from vendor Stratasys.

Using the Stratasys J750, AP Racing began producing vivid multi-color FEA models and functional prototypes (including printed threads) that conveyed design intent instantly—helping secure a prominent F1 client after showcasing a 3D printed clutch FEA plot. The J750 also cut prototype and tooling lead times from weeks to under 24 hours, lowered costs (e.g., a custom laser-etch fixture for £100), and enabled in-house multi-material tools, delivering faster turnaround, reduced cost, and measurable new-business wins with Stratasys technology.
