Additive Manufacturing With the Stratasys F170 3D Printer Replaces Metal Tool Production at mawe presstec GmbH

mawe presstec GmbH, a 30‑year sheet metal specialist in Hatzenbühl, Germany, struggled with time‑consuming, costly metal fixtures and tools that required frequent reorders or external sourcing. To solve this, Managing Director Marco Werling led the company to adopt additive manufacturing with a Stratasys F170™ 3D printer to produce custom in‑house fixtures, tools and prototypes.

Using the Stratasys F170 together with engineering‑grade FDM ABS and GrabCAD Print, mawe presstec shifted fixture production and prototyping in‑house, cutting part production time by up to 50% for certain parts, lowering cost per part by about 20–30%, and enabling 24/7 printing for higher throughput. The Stratasys solution also improved customization and flexibility, reduced material waste and surface damage to polished sheet metal, and accelerated design verification and sales engagement.
