Additive manufacturing empowers Marchesini Group’s design and production innovation

Marchesini Group S.p.A., a leading Italian manufacturer of automatic packaging machinery with nearly 2,000 employees and a global production network, needed a faster, more flexible way to deliver highly customized machine components and spare parts without expensive tooling or long lead times. To meet that challenge, Marchesini Group adopted Stratasys additive manufacturing—deploying Stratasys FDM and PolyJet 3D printers (including Fortus 900mc, Fortus 450mc, F270 systems and PolyJet machines) to enable on‑demand production and greater design freedom across its product lines.

Using Stratasys technology and a dedicated 3D printing facility, Marchesini Group has 3D printed thousands of functional parts, reduced part lead times from several weeks to a few days, and produces exact quantities without tooling. In 2019 the fleet logged 22,480 FDM hours and 1,700 PolyJet hours; some components saw weight reductions of at least 30% using FDM Nylon 12CF and ULTEM 9085, and on‑demand spare‑part printing eliminated costly inventory—deliverable, measurable gains enabled by Stratasys.
