A Stratasys Case Study
Addion GmbH, in collaboration with Stratasys, addressed a critical challenge in surgical education at the University of Innsbruck: the lack of standardized, realistic models for eyelid surgery training. Traditional methods relying on body donors or animal models were limited in availability, ethical acceptability, and their ability to consistently simulate complex or rare pathologies, leaving trainees underprepared for high-stakes procedures.
Using the Stratasys J850 Digital Anatomy Printer, Addion developed high-fidelity 3D printed eyelid models that replicated delicate tissues with unprecedented realism. The solution provided a portable, scalable, and standardized tool for hands-on training. The results were resoundingly positive, with participants praising the models' tactile realism and their ability to accelerate skill mastery, improve safety, and build confidence before entering the operating room. Stratasys technology enabled a future where 3D printed models are essential complements to traditional surgical training methods.
