Aakash Healthcare reduces scoliosis curvature from 130° to 30° with Stratasys

Aakash Healthcare, a super specialty hospital in India, faced the challenge of treating a young patient with a severe and complex dorsal scoliosis deformity, a 130-degree spinal curvature causing immense pain and an inability to walk. To plan this high-risk surgery, they utilized the Stratasys J5 MediJet 3D printer to create a precise model of the patient's spine for pre-surgical planning.

The solution from Stratasys involved 3D printing biocompatible, patient-specific jigs using MED610 material. These sterilizable jigs were used during the 16-hour surgery to guide the accurate placement of screws, drastically reducing the risk of neurological complications. The Stratasys technology enabled surgeons to achieve a 70-80% correction, successfully reducing the spinal curvature from 130 degrees to just 30 degrees.
