Omega Tool Corp - Customer Case Study

Omega Tool Corp, a global leader in large, complex injection molds, needed more effective masking fixtures for its high-heat paint line (200–265 °F / 93–129 °C) that would remain rigid and reusable while reducing cost and lead time. Traditional tapes and injection-molded masks lacked the temperature resistance or were too costly/time-consuming, so Omega turned to Stratasys and its F3300 FDM production system, using ULTEM™ 9085 resin to meet the application’s thermal and durability requirements.

Stratasys printed the custom paint masks in ULTEM™ 9085 on the F3300, delivering parts with an HDT of 353 °F (178 °C) and chemical resistance suitable for the paint environment. Testing showed no warpage or deformation after repeated use, only 0.047 in. (1.2 mm) dimensional change (within the ±0.079 in./2 mm design limit), and perfect masking with no paint contamination; the F3300 also produced masks up to 3× faster than legacy printers and enabled complex designs, prompting Omega Tool Corp to adopt the Stratasys solution as its standard approach.
