3D ‘twins’ give neurovascular intervention a confidence boost

BIOMODEX, a med‑tech innovator that creates patient‑specific “anatomical twins,” faced the challenge of giving neurosurgeons realistic, rapid rehearsal for complex neurovascular procedures where micrometer precision matters. To meet the need for biomechanically accurate, high‑volume models, BIOMODEX used Stratasys J750 3D printers and PolyJet materials alongside its proprietary modeling software to produce lifelike replicas for surgical planning and training.

Using Stratasys technology, BIOMODEX paired its printed anatomical twins with a portable simulation station to recreate blood flow and practice procedures; the Stratasys printers run 15 hours a day and can produce up to 3,000 models per year per machine with turnaround from scan to model in just days. This enabled Dr. Vitor Mendes Pereira’s team to rehearse and safely perform the first robot‑assisted stent placement and aneurysm coiling, reduce procedure time and risk, accelerate resident training, and support several additional successful interventions.
