3D Printing Supports Treatment for Dorsal Scoliosis

Aakash Healthcare, a super specialty hospital in New Delhi, treated a complex case of Progressive Scoliosis Dorsolumbar in a 12-year-old with a 130° spinal curvature that left her unable to walk. To improve pre-surgical planning and produce patient‑specific surgical tools, Aakash Healthcare’s on-site Cure ⅽ 3D lab used Stratasys’ J5 MediJet printer and MED‑610 biocompatible material to create 3D printed spine models and custom jigs.

Using Stratasys’ J5 MediJet‑printed, sterilizable jigs and anatomical models, surgeons rehearsed the procedure and guided accurate titanium screw placement during a two‑stage, 16‑hour operation. The Stratasys solution enabled precise planning of screw size, length and trajectory, substantially reducing surgical risk and achieving approximately 70–80% correction—bringing the spinal curvature down from 130° to about 30°.
