3D Printing Helps Students Create the Missing Piece

York University, Canada’s third-largest university, needed an affordable, fast way for students and faculty to create functional prototypes and custom parts without committing expensive machine time or materials. To meet that need the school adopted Stratasys technology, installing four Stratasys uPrint 3D Printers and using GrabCAD Print software to support budget-conscious prototyping and more complex student designs.

With Stratasys’ uPrint systems and GrabCAD Print, York can precisely estimate material use and costs, cut prototyping expenses by an estimated 30–50% versus CNC, and produce bespoke items like surgical trays and internally complex parts. The Stratasys solution improved project budgeting, preserved costly materials, and broadened students’ design and prototyping capabilities, accelerating hands-on learning and real-world outcomes.
