A Stratasys Case Study
Jacobs Institute, working with Kaleida Health’s Gates Vascular Institute and the University at Buffalo, needed a reliable way to plan treatment for patient Teresa Flint’s complex cerebral aneurysm. They turned to Stratasys 3D Printing solutions—printing a patient-specific vascular model on the Eden 260V using flexible TangoPlus photopolymer—to replicate the anatomy and tissue feel for pre-surgical evaluation.
Stratasys’ model, created from Flint’s CT scans, allowed the Jacobs Institute team to test the initially chosen embolization device and discover it would fail, prompting a revised treatment plan that led to a successful repair. By using Stratasys 3D printed models the team preempted complications, avoided an intraoperative device failure and on-table plan change, and reduced procedural risk and time while improving the likelihood of a positive patient outcome.
