3D Printer Decrease Aerialtronics' Design and Development Costs While Catering to Customization

Aerialtronics, a 35‑employee UAS developer with more than 200 aircraft already in use, needed a way to deliver a customizable standard platform—the Altura Zenith—across many industries without spreading resources too thin. Producing multiple motor housings, gimbals, enclosures and other variants required many slow, costly prototype iterations, so Aerialtronics turned to Stratasys and its uPrint SE Plus 3D Printer to accelerate development and contain costs.

Working with Stratasys, Aerialtronics installed a uPrint SE Plus and used ABSplus material to 3D print overnight prototypes and on‑demand end‑use parts (motor mounts, sensor housings, electronics boxes). The in‑house Stratasys solution enabled five to ten more design iterations, cut R&D time by about 50%, reduced lead times and costs, and delivered the strength and heat resistance needed for flight components while improving the company’s ability to meet diverse customization requirements.
