Mug & Snug uses Strapi to develop a scalable social e-commerce platform

Mug & Snug, a social e-commerce marketplace connecting collectors, interior designers, businesses and homeowners with one-of-a-kind homeware and kitchenware from global artists, needed to bootstrap a scalable platform with a small team. They required a backend that could handle a very large product catalog without pre-rendering thousands of pages, let them add in-house business logic near their data, avoid SaaS lock-in, and keep costs and performance manageable — so they chose Strapi as their headless CMS.

Using Strapi, Mug & Snug built a Nuxt.js SPA served via Netlify CDN, backed by MongoDB Atlas and a simple EC2/PM2 server; they added custom controllers, Strapi lifecycle hooks to sync product catalogs with Stripe and Braintree, and S3 image plugins, and optimized performance by favoring REST endpoints over GraphQL. With Strapi they launched a social commerce MVP in one month instead of the expected six, accelerating time-to-market, enabling earlier business insights and pivots, and delivering a scalable, cost-controlled platform capable of handling varying demand.
