Databricks' 2022 Company Kickoff was a robust hybrid event that needed to connect onsite attendees with virtual guests while keeping a highly tech‑savvy audience engaged and informed — including delivering timely safety and venue information amid early‑year COVID spikes. The core challenge was to provide a seamless, interactive experience that tied together agendas, maps, networking and sponsor interactions across both in‑person and virtual channels.

The solution was a feature‑rich event app offering maps, safety guidance, agendas, push notifications, real‑time chat, Q&A, polling, session check‑in, live video calling, and access to pre‑recorded content. Gamification — notably an onsite QR‑based scavenger hunt linked to the virtual platform — drove engagement, resulting in over 3,000 app downloads and more than 800 scavenger‑hunt participants (about one‑third of attendees), increased sponsor/exhibitor interaction, and overall success in meeting and exceeding event goals.
