Spartanburg County Schools - Customer Case Study

Spartanburg School District #2, a medium-sized district of 14 schools in South Carolina, needed a reliable way to back up about 25GB of nightly data (SQL/Oracle databases, files, images, video) across remote sites and a central data center. Backups were handled by non-IT staff who had to manage tapes and manual processes at each school, which led to missed backups, data loss risk, and compromised disaster recovery.

The district deployed a STORServer Enterprise Backup Appliance (EBA) to replace local tape drives and Veritas software, centralizing and automating backups to a single, easy-to-manage appliance. The EBA installed in days, reduced daily management to about five minutes, improved reliability and recovery (including restoring a teacher’s lost year of certification work), and was later upgraded for additional capacity.
