Gaston county schools - Customer Case Study

Gaston County Schools, a medium-sized North Carolina district of 54 schools serving 33,000 students, was backing up 76 servers (about 87 GB of changed data per day) with an ArcServ solution that was labor‑intensive and unreliable—especially problematic in a region prone to thunderstorms, power outages, and hurricanes. Backup administrator Patricia Pruitt needed an easy-to-use, dependable system because the previous solution effectively required a full-time employee.

The district deployed a STORServer Enterprise Backup Appliance (later upgraded to a larger EBA) configured with a custom disk-to-disk-to-tape workflow. Installation finished ahead of schedule, Pruitt now spends only about 5% of one administrator’s time on backups, and STORServer’s remote support is frequently used. The result: backups that are faster, easier, more reliable, and much less resource‑intensive.
