virtion GmbH, a German managed services provider for hybrid and private cloud hosting, needed a cost-efficient, high-performance block storage solution to replace an unscalable NFS setup without impacting production. They required horizontal and vertical scalability, no single point of failure, and >100,000 IOPS per volume, and evaluated StorPool alongside CEPH and LizardFS before choosing StorPool Distributed Storage.

StorPool implemented a StorPool SSD Hybrid solution across two converged setups with redundant 10Gbit multipath networks and Samsung SSDs, integrated with virtion’s KVM/OpenNebula stack. The deployment delivered up to 200,000 IOPS on a single volume and ~2 GB/s read/write per volume, cut TCO by about 50% versus the next best option, eliminated single points of failure, sped VM deployments, simplified scaling and operations, and enabled virtion to offer higher‑performance, cost‑efficient services using StorPool.
