Dominion Energy Selects StormGeo Weather Forecasting for Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Pilot Turbines

Dominion Energy, developer and owner of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) pilot, needed reliable offshore weather intelligence to support construction and operations of the two-turbine Siemens Gamesa 6 MW pilot located 27 miles off Virginia Beach. To meet this challenge, Dominion Energy selected StormGeo as the sole weather forecast provider to deliver daily offshore weather forecasting and 24/7 operational support during both construction and ongoing pilot operations.

StormGeo delivered continuous forecasting from its 24/7 operations center in Houston with offshore wind expertise from Bergen, Norway, supporting the Ørsted-led construction and the pilot’s energization in October 2020. StormGeo’s services provided the operational visibility and weather-risk management Dominion Energy cited as a “strong performance” during construction, helping ensure safe, reliable pilot operations and laying groundwork for the full-scale CVOW buildout.
