StorMagic SvSAN keeps Lisbon Airport moving with a cost effective solution maintaining uptime for vital docking systems

ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, which operates Lisbon Airport and nine other public airports, faced aging infrastructure for its Advanced Visual Docking Guiding System (A-VDGS). The airport needed a low-cost, highly available virtual storage solution compatible with vSphere Enterprise to keep docking systems online and meet strict uptime and budget requirements. ANA selected StorMagic SvSAN to replace the legacy servers and provide resilient storage for the A-VDGS.

StorMagic deployed SvSAN across two locations 1.5 km apart with fully redundant power, and Pedro Ponte’s team had a fully redundant, operational setup within days. The StorMagic SvSAN solution delivered the required high availability while allowing use of VMware Enterprise features at a fraction of the cost of VMware vSAN, eliminated planned downtime by enabling live failover and fail-back for maintenance, and materially reduced risk and operating effort for the airport’s critical docking systems.
