StorMagic SvSAN enables RWE Renewables to achieve cost effective high availability at over 100 remote renewable energy sites

RWE Renewables, a major European generator of renewable energy, needed to deliver highly available IT services to more than 100 remote sites (unmanned offshore wind farms, biomass and solar facilities) while avoiding high storage acquisition and management costs, complex deployments, and frequent on-site support. To meet these constraints they turned to StorMagic and its SvSAN software-defined storage.

StorMagic implemented SvSAN as a simple two-server, VMware-integrated HA solution that can be managed centrally via vCenter. The deployment delivered VMware high availability across 100+ sites at a fraction of the cost of physical SANs (a complete two-node cluster can be under $8k), dramatically reduced downtime risk for energy-production applications, and eliminated the need for routine on-site support.
