Giant Eagle Turns to StorMagic to Improve Uptime and Add Encryption at more than 200 In-Store Pharmacies

Giant Eagle, a top-40 U.S. private corporation and operator of more than 470 stores with over 200 in-store pharmacies, faced end-of-life hardware and needed to modernize to a Hyper Converged Cluster Platform with solid-state flash as primary storage and software-based encryption for pharmacy data. After evaluating multiple options, Giant Eagle chose StorMagic and deployed SvSAN with StorMagic’s encryption and SvKMS key management to meet performance, availability and security requirements.

StorMagic implemented three-node, all‑flash SvSAN clusters at each pharmacy with SvKMS for centralized key management, enabling the sites to stay online even if two servers fail and eliminating outages common with physical SANs. The deployment improved application performance, reduced server counts (saving one to two servers per store versus competing solutions), protected sensitive patient data, and delivered the high availability StorMagic advertises (SvSAN with three nodes), while scaling to support Giant Eagle’s 200+ pharmacies and planned expansion into core datacenter and cloud workloads.
