CAE S.p.A. Reduces Hardware Dependency, Energy Costs and Management Time with SvSAN

CAE S.p.A., a Bologna-based manufacturer that builds real-time monitoring and decision-support systems for extreme weather, wildfires and water quality, needed to replace a traditional SAS/fibre-channel SAN with a split, virtualized infrastructure across two rooms to cut costs and remove single points of failure. After evaluating DataCore and VMware vSAN, CAE selected StorMagic’s SvSAN for its competitive price and successful testing.

StorMagic deployed SvSAN as a two-node VMware vSphere cluster (managed via vCenter plugin and WebGUI) following consultation with distributor Ready Informatica. The solution was operational in under two hours, enabled remote management, eliminated four rack units, reduced power requirements by at least two kilowatts, shortened full reboot times by about ten minutes, and removed the single point of failure—delivering lower costs, less complexity and faster operations for CAE S.p.A.
